<description>bleepingcomputer.com is a trustworthy source. McAfee (and other anti-virus software) use what&#039;s called &quot;heuristic&quot; detection. It will examine the behavior of an executible file that it doesn&#039;t recognize to determine whether it&#039;s malicious or not. That can lead to false postives sometimes. McAfee just detected the cleaner was deleting files or whatever and considered it as possible malware.
Note: I don&#039;t know if you did or not but you really need to disable system restore before cleaning viruses. They can get re-introduced through the restore files. You probably should do thorough scans to make sure you got everything.
see: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti…
all of these are free:
Run CCleaner first (just run it with the default settings). You&#039;ll get a better idea what infections you have when running anti-spyware scans. http://www.ccleaner.com/
Spybot: http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
After updating switch to advanced mode, to do so select “mode” from the toolbar and check “Advanced Mode”, it will ask if you want to switch modes, say “yes”. Now you have multiple tabs on the left of the screen, select the “tools” tab and click on the “IE Tweaks” icon. Make sure that you check “Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers”. After its updated select the “Immunize” icon, click on the green + to immunize your system. This will help prevent any new spyware/malware infestation by blocking new items. THIS MUST BE REDONE AFTER EVERY UPDATE SO THAT YOU ARE PROTECTED AGAINST THE LATEST THREATS.
Also scan with Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a…
AVG Anit-spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/…
Someone else here recommends this app instead of Spybot and Ad-aware, you might want to give it a try: http://www.superantispyware.com/
Also, Javacool Software&#039;s SpywareBlaster for resident protection: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb…
You can get BitDefender8 as an on-demand virus scanner:http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en…
You don&#039;t want to run two resident anti-virus programs but using one as an on-demand scanner is fine.
Avast! http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
AVG Anti-Virus: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/…
Kaspersky online scan:http://usa.kaspersky.com/products_servic…

<description>I am glad that my other post to your question helped to remove your Virusprotectpro / Smitfraud infection.
The SmitfraudFix removal tool program is completely harmless. It has been used by many thousands. Here is the reason that your McAfee flagged it as a PUP (from S!ri, the author himself):
&quot;Note:
process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a &quot;RiskTool&quot;. It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between &quot;good&quot; and &quot;malicious&quot; use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.&quot;http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix…
Nothing to worry about!</description>
